THE ROSE OF KONSTANCIN MONIKA ŻEROMSKA - DAUGHTER, ARTIST, TRAVELLER

The exhibition presents both the oeuvre of Monika Żeromska and the history of her life.

This daughter of an eminent author, Stefan Żeromski, lived and created in turbulent times: from the interwar period, through September 1939, until the new post-war reality. At the same time, she led a colourful life full of travel, socialising, unusual events and anecdotes.

The exhibition focuses on three themes:

Monika – guardian of the memory of a great novelist. She was the one who saved and hid her father's manuscripts, protested against their use by the communist authorities, and made illustrations for her favourite works by him.

Monika – graduate of Warsaw's Academy of Fine Arts. As a talented artist, Żeromski's daughter painted landscapes and portraits. Her specialities were unique still views and original flower arrangements.

Monika – master of storytelling. She inherited her writing talents from her father, and became a recognised author herself. In recognition of this, she received the Władysław Reymont Award. Her Memories cycle is an engrossing read!

From the perspective of Monika Żeromska's life and memories, the exhibition provides a fuller view of Stefan Żeromski: as one of Poland's most eminent people; as the moral leader of his generation, which comprised independent, post-1918 Poland; as one who was able to be involved in a number of civic actions thanks to his popularity and acclaim as an author; and as a loving and caring father.
